How to Set Up a POS System on an iPad for Your Business

When running a small business , you have to start small. For instance, most small restaurants and diners use the traditional way of taking orders and processing payments – thru pen and paper or mechanical cash register. But, did you know that you can set up your own POS or point of sales system by simply owning an iPad? All you need to do is download a specific app and you are good to go. Here’s how:

In the kitchen, (if you are a resto)  install a Wi-Fi-ready printer to use in sending orders from your iPad POS to the cook.

Install another one in the office where receipts are needed to be printed out.

On the dock connector of the iPad, connect a credit card reader cable.

Tap the “Home’ button on your iPad, tap “App Store” icon, and then tap “Search”. Enter “restaurant POS” and a list of restaurant POS apps will appear. You can try the Ambur- POS, TouchBistro, or Restaurant Butler among many others. You can read reviews first to see if the app is the right one for your business. You can then download and install the POS app of your choice.

Once downloaded and installed, tap the POS app icon to launch. Sign up and you will be prompted to enter contact details or other information. After signing up and verification, your iPad is ready to process payments.

Add items to the  system. Tap “Add New Item” icon and input the name of the item. Include details, such as price and description. You can also upload pictures of the items.

If you are setting up for a restaurant, you can also add tables to the system. If you have 20 tables, for instance, you can simply add the appropriate number to the app. When reservations are made or once the tables are occupied, you can simply enter their orders to the corresponding table.
